Experience Making a Difference

Who are IVC’s Volunteers in Northern Virginia?

The men and women who serve as IVC volunteers in Northern Virginia are people

  • Who are eagerly moving into a new phase of their lives. Their backgrounds are broad. Ignatian Volunteers have either retired from their primary careers, or they have reduced the time they work each week as they move towards full time retirement.
  • Endowed with a generosity of spirit. They have a desire to use their talents in service to others. An attribute shared by all is that they have valuable life experiences to tap into, as well as a sense of maturity and a readiness to reach out and share their wisdom and skills with others.

Above all else, Ignatian Volunteers are men and women who want to give of themselves in response to the blessings and love that God has given them. They wish to grow spiritually by living the gospel in a new way at this time in their lives. Ignatian Volunteers reflect personally and with others to deepen their understanding of those who are materially poor and marginalized. It is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the world in which we live.
