Why Support IVC?

VC started in 1995 in three cities: Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. And while we’ve grown in the brief period since then to be present in 19 markets across the US, we know that we are called to do more. There are millions of people in communities across the country who could be helped by Ignatian Volunteers.  And we know that there are millions of people approaching retirement in major cities across the US who would love to devote their time and live out their faith by helping people in need in their communities.

But we also know that we have to manage our growth with prudence. It wouldn’t be right to start new IVC chapters without an assurance that we can do so responsibly for the long term. And with the financial volatility we’ve all experienced in recent years, our first responsibility is to ensure that our current programs and regions are financially stable, effective, and in a position to grow and better serve their communities. We’ve made good progress in the years following the financial crisis in 2009. But there’s more work to be done.

According to a recent report by the Brookings Institute, the poverty rate in the United States has risen 64% in the past decade.  The work of IVC is a critical one, and with your support, we make a real difference in alleviating the suffering and the impact of poverty.

So, if you believe in the mission of IVC, please stay with us, pray with us, and accompany us on the journey as we become a truly strong and viable national organization. Together, we can create a sturdy and resilient organization that will allow IVC to match Ignatian Volunteers with noble organizations doing the Lord’s work by serving the poor in major cities across the US. If you’d like to help, please review the information on our Magnify campaign to learn what you can do.
