Catholic Charities Milwaukee

Refugee Integration Program: To foster integration, Catholic Charities develops programs in partnership with refugee & immigrant communities that promote social bridges and bonds, develop desired skills and cultural knowledge, and encourage US citizenship. We offer a spectrum of learner-centered trainings so that refugees build the real-life knowledge, attitudes, and skills that they want to achieve success. Volunteers in our program have the chance to build relationships with new residents through a variety of activities. Participants work together at times and locations convenient for them.

Center for Peacemaking, Marquette University

PeaceWorks Program: Marquette University Peace Works is a peace education and violence prevention program that increases young people’s capacity to identify and resolve conflicts nonviolently. The program is implemented in partnership with area schools.
Family Focus Project: This project empowers PeaceWorks families to learn together and utilize the skills to become effective peacemakers in the home, the neighborhood, the world!

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School uses an innovative work-study program to provide a comprehensive affordable, Catholic education to students who come from families with limited financial means. All students work five full days per month at companies across the greater Milwaukee area. Through our innovative program, students gain confidence, connect the relevance of their academic coursework to future employment, acquire skills that will benefit their career, and receive unprecedented access to the professional world.

Habitat for Humanity

Milwaukee Habitat is here to combat our city’s affordable housing crisis by providing families with an affordable path to safe, stable housing. Affordable housing means more than a decent place to sleep at night. Studies show safe, affordable housing leads to improved health, education and financial stability. By concentrating our efforts in a targeted areas, Milwaukee Habitat is not just helping local families, but revitalizing entire neighborhoods. As we build block by block, we aim to decrease crime, increase community engagement, and create vibrant, sustainable neighborhoods. Milwaukee Habitat offers a hand up, rather than a hand out as Habitat homeowners help build their own homes and pay an affordable mortgage.

Lad Lake

Lad Lake is a youth and social service organization in Milwaukee that serves at-risk youth in order to help them reach their potential and succeed in school and life. Lad Lake provides support through individualized therapy, skill building for independence, mentoring, and a safe community to help children heal, grow and thrive.

Milwaukee County Drug Treatment Court

The mission of the MCDTC is to enhance public safety through the reduction of recidivism by coordinating effective & accountable substance abuse treatment & supportive services for offenders with substance abuse problems. The primary goals are: (1) reduce recidivism among drug using offenders; (2) provide effective & accountable community-based alternatives to incarceration; (3) improve public safety; and, (4) effectively manage limited criminal justice system resources.

Seton Catholic Schools

Seton Catholic Schools is an organization in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that is building a network of elementary schools.  Seton Catholic Schools is striving for the highest academic and spiritual formation outcomes for our students and is focused on urban needs.

Health and Safety Project: Medically trained IVC Service Corps members have worked with Seton School leaders to assess current health policies, procedures and services in the 10 Seton schools. They have helped to coordinate hearing, vision, dental screenings. They have connected Seton to community resources; procured health kits for all schools and classrooms; created a clean and fully equipped health room at St. Catherine school; researched best practices for school-based health programs across the country; and are assisting in providing professional development for Seton principals, teachers and school employees.

IVC Reading Tutoring Program: IVC created and now facilitates a robust reading tutoring program that invites community members to serve as one-on-one reading tutors with children K-5 through 3rd grade in 4 Seton schools. Working together with Seton Catholic School leaders, IVC recruits tutors, assists in providing tutor training, schedules tutors (usually 2.5 hours per week) and supports tutors throughout the school year.

St. Hyacinth Food Pantry

St. Hyacinth Food Pantry supports the poor living in the zip codes of 53221 and 53215 on the near south side of Milwaukee. Our primary mission is to feed the hungry and we do so with compassion and care by also providing on-site basic nursing assistance. The program is designed to help families obtain food on a monthly basis to supplement their grocery needs.

Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM)

SWIM is a community led movement that aims to respond to the trauma that is at the core of Milwaukee’s unemployment, mental illness, addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, and suicide crisis. Confronting racism in Milwaukee and the trauma caused by it has been critical to the work of SWIM.
