Jim Martin, S.J. will lead the discussion with distinguished guests: John Carr, Founder and Director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University; Ms. Barbara Lee, longtime Ignatian Volunteer, retired U.S. Magistrate Judge, spiritual director, and author; and Eric Van NostrandChair, Social Justice Ministry at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola and former staff economist and advisor to the Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors.

James Martin, SJ, is a Jesuit priest, editor at large of America, consultor to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Communication and the author of many books including Jesus: A Pilgrimage, The Jesuit Guide and, most recently, Building a Bridge.  He is a frequent commentator in the national and international media and has appeared on all the major networks discussing religion and spirituality.  He has been a Jesuit for 32 years.
John Carr is founder and director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown University. He served for 20 years as director of the Department of Justice, Peace, and Human Development at the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He previously served as Secretary for Social Concerns for the Archdiocese of Washington under Cardinal Hickey, Executive Director of the White House Conference on Families under President Carter, and Director of the National Committee for Full Employment under Coretta Scott King. John has also served as a Washington columnist for America and a Residential Fellow on religion and politics at the Institute of Politics of Harvard University.
Barbara Lee is a spiritual director with a ministry to the aging, a longtime Ignatian Volunteer Corps Member where she served as a volunteer ESL teacher at an immigrant services center. Barbara also serves on the IVC Regional Council. Prior to retirement, she served as a U. S. Magistrate Judge. Barbara is the author of God Isn’t Finished With Me Yet: Discovering the Spiritual Graces of Later Life.
Eric Van Nostrand is Chair of the Social Justice Committee at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish. The committee works to make a difference on issues consistent with Catholic social teaching, including the opioid crisis and economic justice. Eric is Head of Macro Research at BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies division. He was formerly an economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers during the Obama Administration. Eric is a graduate of Yale Law School and the University of Pennsylvania.
