Our initial experience with service came to us in 2004 when Anne had heard of the Court Appointed Special Advocate “CASA” program in the Tampa/Clearwater area in Florida. Since Matt had just retired from a full-time consulting engagement, Anne encouraged him to look into CASA.
As it turned out, Matt became fully involved with the program and became a Guardian Ad Litem in Florida. Matt worked with abused, neglected and abandoned children in Florida and in Scranton until about 2009.
A few years later, we heard Teddy Michel address our parish in Moscow talking about the IVC program. Anne was impressed immediately and interested in getting involved. It took some nudging from Anne, however, to get Matt on board.
We eventually met up with Teddy for some in depth conversations about the program. Finally, in Sept 2019, we began our journey with IVC of NEPA. Anne’s service opportunities have taken her to The Women’s Resource Center, NeighborWorks of NEPA, United Neighborhood Centers, and the University of Scranton.
Matt has served at Nativity Miguel, NeighborWorks of NEPA, and United Neighborhood Centers.
Through our involvement with this program, we have been enriched spiritually in many ways. We have experienced new ways to perform service, meet new friends and find God in all who we deal with on an almost daily basis.
