St. Bakhita House is a Catholic Worker House in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, teaching and practicing the Beatitudes and providing a supportive community for women escaping the exploitation of human sex trafficking. Recently, IVC Milwaukee members had the opportunity to visit St. Bakhita House, and learn more about how women who are survivors of sexual exploitation benefit from the spiritual nourishment and community-building that are part of the Catholic Worker tradition. Anne Haines, Founder and Executive Director, shared the history of how the House started, explained that St. Bakhita is the patron saint of human trafficking and slavery, gave a tour and provided time for discussion and questions. It was a special day of learning and prayer for IVC members.
