IVC Names New Director in Chicago

by | Feb 27, 2022

As we enter springtime, we are thrilled to announce the new Director for IVC Chicago will be Thomas J. Galvin. Tom comes to us with a rich background in leadership, program development, and faith-based service, on which he will draw to continue building out the mission of IVC in Chicago.

Born and raised in a large Irish-Catholic family in Oak Park, Illinois, Tom went to Fenwick High School and then on to Dominican University where he received both his BA and his MBA. After spending over twenty years in the for-profit world, in 2004 Tom transitioned to nonprofit work with faith-based organizations.

Tom comes to IVC from the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. His career has also taken him to the Apostleship of Prayer in Milwaukee, Immaculate Conception Church and School in Chicago, and Seton Academy in South Holland, Illinois. Tom spent his for-profit days at McMaster-Carr Supply Company in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Tom lives in Oak Park Illinois with his aging (14 ½-year-old) Golden Retriever, Ivy.  In his free time, he likes to cook, work out, and get in some games at Wrigley Field. Tom says, “I am over the moon about joining the IVC team” and the feeling is mutual!

Tom’s official start date with IVC will be Tuesday, March 1st.

I want to publicly thank Jackie Fitzgerald, Program Manager for IVC Chicago for her tremendous leadership and service during the transition of regional directors. She has gone above and beyond what was expected of her and the community of service corps members and spiritual reflectors in Chicago is better for it.

I also want to thank Jim Sweany, Sr. Kathleen Donnelly OP, Dick Sibberson, Mike McGillicuddy, Fr. Steve Krupa SJ, and Fr. Jack O’Callahan SJ for working with Becky Ehrman, IVC’s Vice President for Programs and Regional Development to select the best candidate for IVC Chicago’s director position.

Please join me in welcoming Tom to the IVC Chicago family! You can reach him after March 1st at tgalvin@ivcusa.org.

With my gratitude for you,

Mary McGinnity
President and CEO
