The Legacy of Service: Tony and Julia Albrecht

by | Jun 4, 2025

Answering the Call to Love and Serve

Tony and Julia Albrecht have been integral to the Ignatian Volunteer Corps since its inception. Julia, who passed away in 2023, dedicated over 17 years to helping job seekers craft resumes and prepare for meaningful work. She began her service at Jubilee Jobs in Washington, D.C., and later spent seven years with Catholic Charities’ Welcome Home Re-Entry Program at Montgomery County’s Pre-Release Center.

Known affectionately as “The Resume Lady,” Julia worked with incarcerated men transitioning back into the community, many of whom struggled with gaps in employment or lacked traditional work histories. Julia would ask, “Did you take care of your siblings? Did you make meals for your family?” By reframing their life experiences, she helped them see their skills—childcare, cooking, time management—and their potential. Her compassionate approach restored dignity and hope, empowering these men to rebuild their lives.

Inspired by Julia’s commitment, Tony joined IVC and has served at the Spanish Catholic Center of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington for over twenty years. He teaches basic Construction Math and English and Green Building. Reflecting on his service, Tony shares, “The engagement with humanity is very powerful. I am blessed to be able to serve.”

To ensure their legacy of service endures, Tony has included IVC in his will. This planned gift reflects their lifelong dedication to faith and service, ensuring that IVC can continue its mission of empowering others and transforming communities for generations to come.

What Legacy Will You Leave?

Legacy giving is about ensuring that the values and work you care about most continue to thrive, no matter what cause or mission is closest to your heart. It allows us to extend the impact of our lives far beyond our time here. Through a planned gift, we can ensure that the things we believe in—the causes we hold dear—continue to touch lives and create change for generations to come.

Think about the story of Tony and Julia. Julia left behind something deeper than just her service. Julia left a legacy—a legacy of hope, dignity, and transformation in the lives she touched. That’s the power of legacy giving: the opportunity to make a lasting difference long after we can no longer be here in person.

By including IVC in your estate plans, you help ensure that social service nonprofits serving the most vulnerable in our communities can continue to rely on IVC members for years to come. Join the Isabel Roser Society

IVC is proud to name its Planned Giving Society after Isabel Roser, a remarkable woman whose generosity and commitment played a pivotal role in the early days of the Society of Jesus. Isabel Roser, a wealthy Catalan noblewoman, was a devoted supporter of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Her financial assistance and unwavering support were instrumental in helping Ignatius establish the Jesuit order, which has since become one of the most influential religious communities in the world.

Isabel Roser’s legacy is one of faith, service, and profound generosity. During her time, her contributions were not just to the founding of the Jesuits but also directly supported the order’s mission to serve those in need. With her backing, the Jesuits were able to provide education, spiritual guidance, and relief to the poor and marginalized, reflecting the core values of compassion and social justice that define Ignatian spirituality.

In naming our Planned Giving Society the Isabel Roser Society, we honor her spirit of giving and her commitment to supporting those who serve the most vulnerable in our communities. Just as her support allowed the Jesuits to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need, your legacy through the Isabel Roser Society will ensure that IVC can continue to provide skilled and compassionate service to those in need while fostering spiritual growth through Ignatian spirituality for years to come.
