Fr. Gregory Boyle, SJ Founder and Director of Homeboy Industries
Be intrigued as Fr. Boyle shares stories and experiences of years of witnessing the devastating impact of gang violence on his community during what he has called the “decade of death.” Fr. Boyle and his parish and community members adopted what was a radical approach at the time: treating gang members as human beings.
Be amazed at how Fr. Greg addressed the escalating problems and unmet needs of gang-involved youth by developing positive opportunities for them, including establishing an alternative school and day care program and seeking out legitimate employment.
Be inspired by the growth of HOMEBOY industries which provides critical services to 15,000 men and women who walk through its doors seeking a better life.
Fr. Greg Boyle, a member of the Society of Jesus, was ordained a Catholic Pries in 1984. He holds several degrees, has spent a year living and working with base communities in Cochabamba, Bolivia and has served as pastor of Dolores Mission Church, which at the time was the poorest Catholic Parish in the city of Los Angeles.
Fr. Greg is the author of two popular books: Tattoos on the Heart and Barking to the Choir.
