Madonna Della Strada Award Recipients:

Mr. Charles Short, Advisor to the County Executive of Montgomery County, MD (retired)

An extraordinary presence in the public service, social concerns and Roman Catholic communities in Montgomery County. In local government, he served every County Executive since that office was created – as Director of Human Resources, Director of Health and Human Services and Special Assistant. For the Church, he served as Secretary of Social Concerns for the Archdiocese of Washington for five years and continues to write a popular column in the monthly Our Parish Times. Within the world of social services, he has served on the boards of several Catholic and secular non-profits.

Ms. Marie Dennis, Senior Advisor to the Secretary General, Pax Christi International

Pax Christi is the global Catholic peace movement as well as an IVC partner agency. Marie served as Co-President from 2007 to 2019 and now serves as Senior Advisor to the Secretary General. Marie worked for Maryknoll from 1989 to 2012 and was the director of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns for fifteen years.

Kathleen Curtin Spirituality in Mission Award Recipient:

Rev. Patrick Conroy, S.J., Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives

As a scholar, contemplative in action and  lawyer, Fr. Conroy reminds the elected leaders of our larger national legislative body of the need to acknowledge the help of a higher power to lead them in their special duty to serve their constituents and indeed all peoples of the United States. When he is not serving on Capitol Hill, Fr. Conroy serves as a spiritual reflector for the Ignatian Volunteer Corps from his home in the Gonzaga Jesuit Community on Eye Street.
