Questions About Service Commitment and Logistics
How long do IVC corps members serve?
IVC members commit to one to two days per week (8–16 hours total) for 10 months (September–June). Many stay with their placement for multiple years—the average corps member serves for five years!
Do corps members get paid?
No, corps members volunteer their time and do not receive compensation. Their service is a donation of time, skills, and experience to your organization.
What is expected of nonprofit partners?
- Partner organizations agree to:
Provide a meaningful role where the IVC member can make an impact. - Offer basic orientation and support to help the corps member integrate into the organization.
- Pay a modest annual partnership fee to help sustain IVC’s program.
Is there a cost to partner with IVC?
Yes. IVC asks partner organizations to pay a modest annual partnership fee to help cover recruitment, screening, placement, and ongoing support.
- The fee is $2,000–$3,000 per year, depending on the level of weekly commitment from the corps member.
- The average IVC member serves 352–704 hours per year, making the cost approximately $5 per hour—a fraction of the cost of hiring a staff member with similar experience.
This fee allows IVC to recruit and support high-quality corps members while keeping the program sustainable for the long term.
