Our corps members serve one or two days per week while also engaging in faith-sharing, reflection, and spiritual growth rooted in Ignatian Spirituality.
Who can become a corps member?
IVC welcomes adults 50 and older who are:
- Looking for purposeful service opportunities
- Interested in faith-based reflection and community
- Able to commit to serving one or two days per week (September–June)
Do I have to be Catholic to join IVC?
No! While IVC is rooted in Ignatian Spirituality, we welcome people of all backgrounds who share our commitment to service, justice, and reflection.
Questions About Service and Commitment

We work with each corps member to match them with a placement that aligns with their skills, interests, and availability.
How many hours per week do corps members serve?
Corps members commit to one or two days per week (8–16 hours total) for 10 months (September–June). Many members of IVC continue serving for multiple years—the average corps member stays for five years!
Can I serve virtually?
Yes! IVC offers a Virtual Program for those who prefer to serve remotely. This allows IVC members to support nonprofits through tasks like mentoring, grant writing, or administrative support—no matter where they live.
Do I get to choose my placement?
Yes! We work closely with each corps member to find a placement that matches their skills, interests, and location. You’ll have a chance to discuss options and choose a nonprofit that feels like the right fit.
Questions About Faith and Spiritual Reflection
What is Ignatian Spirituality?
Ignatian Spirituality is a faith tradition inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. It emphasizes finding God in all things, service to others, and personal reflection.
What are the faith-sharing meetings?
All corps members participate in monthly gatherings with fellow IVC members for faith-sharing, reflection, and community-building. These meetings help deepen your spiritual life while connecting you with like-minded peers.
Are there retreats or other spiritual opportunities?
Yes! IVC offers occasional retreats to help corps members reflect, recharge, and grow in their faith. We also provide one-on-one spiritual reflection opportunities for those who want additional guidance.
